NATIONAL NEWS - added 30/04/18 - DIGITAL EDITIONS OF WHAT'S BREWING AND BEER MAGAZINE

From next month members will no longer be getting sent What’s Brewing and/or BEER magazine automatically – unless they express a preference to get a printed version. CAMRA is changing the way it sends out What’s Brewing and BEER and will no longer automatically assume all members want a printed copy. It’s important to note that members are not losing anything and CAMRA will still print and post any member a copy of the publications if they get in touch to let the organisation know they want to continue to receive them. It’s easy for members to express their preference either online, by phone, by email or post – see below for details.

CAMRA currently sends out more than 100,000 publications a month by post to members. This costs the Campaign a large amount of money, which could be used to fund other activities. It also has a large environmental cost. Research suggests a large proportion of the copies we print and post, and therefore the money spent, is being wasted on unwanted and unread publications. CAMRA has developed an online news service. Digital versions of What’s Brewing and BEER are made available at wb.camra.org.uk

In addition news is updated regulared to the wb.camra.org.uk website between issues of What’s Brewing and BEER, making the site more up-to-date and convenient than waiting for the printed issue. Those members already opted out of getting publications by post don’t need to do anything. Those who get WB and/or BEER by post, but are happy to access them online in future, don’t need to do anything. If they’d like to continue to get the publications, they can still get What’s Brewing and BEER, they just get in touch to let CAMRA know they still want it:

If they’d like to continue to get the publications, they can still get What’s Brewing and BEER, they just get in touch to let CAMRA know they still want it:

LOCAL NEWS - added 03/04/18 - 13th PLANET THANET EASTER BEER FESTIVAL

The 13th Planet Thanet Easter Beer Festival has now been and gone and despite some challenging weather was well attended. The Beer Festival by Numbers will be published in the next day or so as will a gallery of photos.

It would not have been possible to put on the event without the volunteers, many hands helped set up the event, issue the tokens, serve the wares, sign up new members and ultimately take it down again over the 9 days. Your help is much appreciated and we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as the people the other side of the bars.

What is Real Ale - In the early 1970s CAMRA coined the term 'real ale' to make it easy for people to differentiate between the bland processed beers being pushed by the big brewers and the traditional beers whose very existence was under threat. Real ale, also referred to as cask-conditioned ale, continues to develop its wonderful tastes and aromas in the cask through a process called secondary fermentation.
